Prix SUD 2024

2019 winner Terrabloc

The Terrabloc project was born of a desire, an intuition and a shared enthusiasm to rediscover a building material that has been forgotten in our countries: earth. More than a third of the world's population lives in earthen buildings. Earth is a noble material: it breathes, regulates humidity, absorbs heat or cold, insulates acoustically and, above all, has a unique materiality. Two young professionals - one an architect and the other an engineer - accompanied by an administrator, have come together to explore this raw material, which is just waiting to be experimented with, shaped and reinvented. The Terrabloc team now specialises in the characterisation and treatment of excavated earth, to ensure the quality of the products it develops.

2019 finalist Hades

Europe's public pipelines are 2.5 million kilometres long, stretching more than 60 times around the world. Every year, around CHF 22 billion is invested in their maintenance, with the assessed condition of the pipes being the main basis for decision-making. To assess the condition of a canal, it is flushed, scanned with a video camera and any damage detected and reported by experts. However, assessing channel videos is extremely laborious and error-prone. Using artificial intelligence, the ETH Hades spin-off automatically recognises damage in inspection videos and assesses the condition of the pipes. Swiss and German cities are currently testing the service, which will be launched on the market in the autumn. Hades is supported by various funds (>500k CHF) such as the SNSF, Climate-KIC and the Climate Foundation. The seven-strong team is made up of data scientists, computer scientists and environmental engineers, and is supported by scientists from ETH and Eawag.

2019 finalist MagicTomato

MagicTomato responds to a need expressed by many Swiss people: how do you shop outside the supermarket when you're short of time, in order to obtain local, healthy products? With this in mind, we have created a unique system with the B-Corp label, enabling us to offer an integrated range of products from local suppliers, delivered in just a few hours via a service that is entirely designed to be sustainable. In concrete terms, we're offering an online market where you can do your weekly shopping (vegetables, meat, fish, etc.) using 100% non-industrial fresh produce from local artisans. Our next objective is to create an ecosystem in the Lausanne region with local artisans while benefiting from our methodology.
